Rain Mate is a rain water enhancement that facilitates the natural process of the plant to absorb the nutrients at a cellular level. Too understand what it does, it would be first better to understand the reason why many gardeners prefer to use rain water they collect in rain barrels as opposed to just using the treated water from the hose. Treated water or domestic water, supplied by your municipality, has been chemically treated to eliminate unwanted materials that can be harmful to our health. This process also takes out all the good things as well, such as minerals and nutrients that are considered beneficial. Plus, it has been found that chlorine and fluorine that is used to treat water slows down the growth in most plants, can also be very harmful to some others.

Rainwater, on the other hand, does not have and chemicals in them and is pretty much free of any impurities other than what it collects from the air. The natural process that creates fresh rain water, makes it far better than treated water. The only down fall to rain water is the fact, it is completely void of any nutrients and minerals, and is considered empty water. As you know, water likes to dissolve everything, and absorbs it quit readily. Its what water does naturally, and it carries what it absorbs into the soil and down into the plants root. This is one of the main reasons we use fertilizers, as when the fresh rain water passes through the fertilized soil, it absorbs some of the nutrients and carries it to the plants root system. Unfortunately, most times, the rain water doesn’t have time to absorb as much as it can before its delivers its self to the plant.
